Cuba celebrates UN anniversary, thanks support

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today celebrated the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN), while thanking the world’s highest body for its support to his country.

In his account of X, he pointed to the eight decades of the United Nations in the face of enormous challenges to multilateralism and peace.

Cuba celebrates the date and appreciates the #ONU’s support for sustainable development, including the fight against #Bloqueo and the response to the impact of hurricanes and disasters. #UN80.

On the same social network, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed the need to protect the United Nations (UN) in the face of the threat that the United States government represents today to its founding principles.

The head of the foreign ministry said that the UN has a duty to protect and strengthen it. We have to avoid subordinating them to the priorities and capricious rules imposed by those who provide the most financing, he said.

Cuba is one of the 51 founding countries of the UN since the first signing in June 1945 and then with ratification in October of that same year.

The UN Charter entered into force on October 24, 1945.
